Dirty rice is a classic dish, known for its rich flavor and hearty texture. It's traditionally made with a mix of white rice and ground meat, but today we're putting a simple spin on it using fluffy jasmine rice, carmelized onions, and garlic. This dish is perfect for a weeknight dinner when you want something easy yet flavorful!
Whether you’re serving it alongside grilled chicken, shrimp, or simply enjoying it on its own, this dish is guaranteed to be a hit.
Made with simple ingredients that are likely to be in your pantry. Your kitchen will smell amazing from the rich, savory aromas of sautéed garlic, onion, and warm seasonings as the rice cooks.
What you need:
Jasmine rice
1/4 cup Olive oil
Minced garlic clove
1/3 Diced onion
Salt & pepper
Thyme
1/2 cube chicken maggi
Optional side: Artichoke, Spinach & Cheese Stuffed Mushrooms
How to make:
Heat a saucepan over medium heat and add olive oil. Once pan is hot, add diced onion. Cook for about 1–2 minutes until it softens and becomes translucent. Stir occasionally so it doesn’t brown too quickly. Add the minced garlic and cook just until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
Season the mixture with salt, black pepper, thyme, and chicken Maggi seasoning. Stir well so the spices coat the onions and garlic evenly. Let them cook together for another minute so the flavors deepen and blend into the oil.
Turn the heat up to high and add the jasmine rice directly into the pot. Stir continuously for about 2–3 minutes so the rice gets lightly toasted and coated in the seasoned oil. This step helps lock in flavor and gives the dish a richer taste.
Pour in cold water until it sits about an inch above the rice. Stir once to distribute everything evenly, then cover with a lid. Reduce the heat to low so it gently simmers without burning or sticking.

Fluff the rice with a fork. Serve warm and enjoy!
